Jones takes second in NYS Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship

Lauryn Jones of Rome, PA recently finished second in the NYS Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship held in West Point, NY on April 2, 2017. Jones made 22/25 foul shots and then went 10/10 in a tiebreaker to secure second place in the 13-year-old girls’ state competition. The winner netted a total of 23/25 to capture the state title.

Enroute to the state championship, Lauryn placed first in the following contests to earn a trip to the state finals. Dan Manwaring Memorial Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship making 13/15 baskets and then eventually winning in a four round tiebreaker. Following that she then captured the District Championship in Tioga Center, NY making 21/25 shots. She then went on to win the Sectional Championship in Rochester, NY with a score of 22/25. The Regional Championship was held in Syracuse, NY and she scored 21/25 to secure a trip to the state final held at West Point Military Academy.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually and is open to boys and girls ages 9 to 14.
