Boy killed in golf cart accident in Asylum Twp.

Staff Writer

ASYLUM TOWNSHIP — A 9-year-old boy was killed Wednesday in Asylum Township when the golf cart he was operating overturned and landed on him, the county coroner said.

The boy, Isaac Johnson, was transported by ambulance to Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital, where he was dead on arrival, said Bradford County Coroner Tom Carman.

Two other children who were passengers in the golf cart were uninjured in the accident, which occurred at the intersection of French Azilum Road and Johnson Drive, Carman said.

At the time of the accident, Johnson and his family, who are from Oregon, were visiting Johnson’s grandfather, Donald Johnson Sr., who lives on Johnson Drive, the coroner said.

The accident is still under investigation by the state police, who are reconstructing the accident, Carman said.

However, “it would appear that the accident occurred when (Isaac Johnson) was attempting to make a left-hand turn” from French Azilum Road onto Johnson Drive, which is the driveway on which Donald Johnson Sr. lives.

“It appears that (Isaac Johnson) made the turn too sharp,” causing the golf cart to begin to travel up an embankment and overturn, Carman said. The golf cart landed on Johnson and pinned him underneath it, the coroner said.

The accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m., the coroner said.

The cause of Johnson’s death was blunt force head trauma, the coroner said.

The golf cart belongs to Donald Johnson Sr., Carman said.

The two other children who were riding in the golf cart were Isaac Johnson’s cousins. One of them was a 10-year-old girl. The other was a boy, whom Carman believes is 7 years old.
