Towanda Seniors fall to East Stroudsburg

WYSOX — The Towanda Senior softball team fell to East Stroudsburg 16-9 in the second game at the Senior State Softball Championships on Thursday.

Towanda now plays Levittown United in the consolation bracket at 3 p.m. today. The winner faces East Stroudsburg at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the title game. East Stroudsburg needs one win to take the title, Towanda or Levittown would have to win Friday and again on Saturday to take the championship.

East Stroudsburg led 4-0 heading to the bottom of the second, but Towanda got three in the second and two in the third to take a 5-4 lead.

East Stroudsburg scored eight runs in the sixth inning to break the game open.

Saige Greenland had a hit for Towanda and Cearra McLinko had two doubles and scored two runs.

Vanessa Vanderpool had a double and scored two runs and Sydney Schoonover had a double.

Emily Dunn had a hit and scored a run and Mary Smiley scored a run.

Lizzy Matera scored two runs for Towanda.

Schoonover and Maynard pitched for Towanda, striking out four.

Haley Curnow had two triples for East Stroudsburg and Sierra Muth and Kaitlyn Lichtenstein each had a pair of doubles.

Patricia and Sierra Muth pitched for East Stroudsburg, combining to strike out eight.
