Often people, as well as whole organizations, spend a great deal of time talking about what they should do, endlessly mulling the possibilities, rather than making solid decisions and getting things done.
Not so in Wysox Township. The flooding in September of last year ravaged the business district along U.S. Route 6. In response, many are working together to see that it doesn't happen again. The permit for the work was received just last week from the Bradford County Conservation District, and Phase I of Laning Creek clean-up is about to get under way.
Credit goes to Jim Good, a co-owner of Arey Building Supply in Wysox, who is leading the restoration, and KBD Excavating, which is donating the labor and equipment, as well as the Central Bradford Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring the project. The Chamber is still in the process of raising $15,000 to pay for large blocks of stone that will be used to armor places where the floodwaters ruined the stream banks.
The money is coming from donations, which are averaging about $500 apiece.
Besides restoring the stream banks, Phase I will involve removing gravel bars and tree debris.
Hopefully the weather cooperates, and Phase I is completed in a month as expected. Wysox businesses are taking an important step to prevent the devastation from another flood.
