SAYRE - The Athens girls' and the Sayre boys won the SAT League Meet in swimming action Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats amassed 378 points while Sayre was second with 318 and Towanda took third with 217. Fourth was Wellsboro with 70, North Penn was fifth with 45, Canton and Troy tied for sixth with 26 and Mansfield was eighth with 20.
The Redskins held off Towanda on the boys' side with 419 points to the Knights' 361. Athens was third with 75, Mansfield fourth with 44, Wellsboro fifth with 29, North Penn sixth with 22 and Canton took seventh with 20.
The Redskin girls won the 200 yard medley relay in 2:12.03 to start things off. They had a team of Courtney Bruer, Rachel Hurley, Grace McClelland and Katherine Porter.
In the 200 yard freestyle, Athens' Jess Kopatz won with a time of 2:18.19 while Towanda's Morgan Dreisch was second and Sayre's Emily Schamel finished third.
North Penn's Violet Learn won the 200 IM in 2:30.81 with Knight Sarah Lamphere second and McClelland taking third.
Sayre took the top two spots in the 50 free. Rachel Hurley was first in 27.29 while Dawn Fenninger took second. Towanda's Meredith Corbett was finished third.
Wildcat Sarah Slocum won the diving with 175.85 points while teammate Allie Vine took second. Bruer was third.
Porter won the 100 fly in 1:01.45 while Troy's Ariana Smyth was second. Wellsboro's Emilie Kramer finished third.
In the 100 free, Hurley took home the gold in 58.60 with Wellsboro's Brittany Redell second and Corbett third.
Learn returned to win the 500 free in 6:04.09 with Bruer and Schamel second and third.
An Athens team of Giuliana Desisti, Jess Kopatz, Lauren Pruyne and Kirstan Vanderpool won the 200 free relay in 1:56.82 .
Porter won the 100 backstroke in 1:08.28 with Smyth second and Lamphere third. Canton's Whitney Bailey won the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.04 with Kopatz second and Redskin Kaitlyn Tappan third.
The Redskins finished the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 4:11.38 with Fenninger, Hurley, McClelland and Porter.
On the boys' side, Towanda started things off by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:51.46 with a team of Trevor Standish, Mike Schultz, Kody Brown and Blake Burlingame.
Wellsboro's Robert Hill won the 200 free in 1:59.62 while Towanda's Christian Basse was second and Sayre's Lorenzo Servedio took third.
Sayre' Altan Frantz won the 200 IM in 2:12.49 while Knights Mike Caine and Jim Tice were second and third.
Brown won the 50 free in 23.72 with teammate Burlingame second. Sayre's Nick Friedrichsen finished third.
Athens' Tyler Solomon won the diving with 76.60 points.
In the 100 fly, Athens' Frank Chen won in 56.75 while Sayre's Alex Porter was second and North Penn's Josh King was third.
Brown won the 100 fly in 52.80, edging out Hill by .02 seconds. Standish was third.
Porter won the 500 free in 5:37.07 with Basse second and Mansfield's Nathan Weed third.
A Knight team of Standish, Caine, Burlingame and Brown won the 200 free relay in 1:40.78.
Chen won the 100 backstroke in 59.11 with Standish second and Servedio taking third.
Frantz won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.09 with Solomon second and Towanda's Derek Cole finishing third.
Sayre's team of Frantz, Chris Marshall, Porter and Servedio won the 400 free relay in 3:46.24.
Towanda coach Mike Locke was pleased with his team's performance.
"Overall, our team had a very good night, and this kind of meet is what it's all about," Locke said. "You can work yourself to the bone for three months, and your performances can be the highest of the highs or the lowest of the lows. But a championship meet at the end of a season is a culmination of hard work, mental focus, and will....and it was all in their hands tonight. They did a terrific job handling that tonight, and we saw a number of personal best."
The Knights had two district qualifiers: Corbett win the 100 free and Garrett Johnson in the 100 free leading off in the 400 free relay for the Knights.
