Big second half pushes Towanda past CV

TOWANDA - The Knights used a 49-27 second half run to pick up an NTL cross-over girls' basketball win over Cowanesque Valley 58-38 Friday.

Towanda led 10-0 after the first quarter but CV cut it to 19-11 at the half before the big half by the Knights.

Darien Lantz led Towanda with 21 points, four assists and five steals while Ashley Fleming added 17 with seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Alysha Grimes had 12 points with six steals, four boards and three assists while Alaina Wickwire netted six points and four assists. Kaitlin Hallabuk rounded out the Knight scoring with two.

Stephanie Painter led CV with 19 while Carley Murdock added seven. Amanda Painter and Renee Farman had three points each, Hayley Painter and Blair Williams had two points each while Mikayla Andrews and Grace Earl had one a piece.

Towanda won the JV game 45-33 behind 15 from Koryn Wickwire and 11 from Hallabuk. Earle led CV with 11.

Wyalusing 73, Galeton 46

WYALUSING - Alexis Daly netted 22 and Arielle Kneller added 18 to lead the Wyalusing Rams to a 73-46 non-league win over visiting Galeton Friday night, improving to 13-1 overall on the season.

Every player suited up to play for the Rams scored including Courtney Eberlin with five, Kasey DeVoir, Sydney Snyder, Savannah Schools and Veronica Morrison each with four, Laci Holdren and Mackenzie Martin with three, Kayleen Sutton, Ally DeVoir and Paighton Martin with two.

Kneller paced the Rams with 14 rebounds while Daly added 10 and Schools pulled down seven. Holdren and Eberlin each had five boards while Kasey DeVoir, Sydney Snyder and Sutton each had three and Morrison added one.

Morrison and Daly led the Rams with two blocked shots each while Mackenzie Martin, Schools and Daly each had one.

Mackenzie Martin paced the Rams with three assists while Eberlin had two and Holdren, Kacey DeVoir, Schools, Ally DeVoir and Daly each had one.

Holdren led the Rams with three steals while Eberlin had two and Kasey DeVoir, Mackenzie Martin, Sydney Snyder, Kayleen Sutton, Schools and Kneller each had one.

Nicole Reeves led the Tigers with 11 points while McKayla Cochran and Mataya McPherson each added 10, Latascia Burrows had nine and Andi Leach finished with six.

Wyalusing won the JV game 40-26 as Alley DeVoir had a game-high 16 points. Kasey DeVoir had five and Morgan Sutton, Alley DeVoir, Paighton Martin and Veronica Morrison each had four for the Rams.

Andi Leach led the Tigers with 13 points while Mekensie Huggler, Karissa Burrows and Mataya McPherson added four each.

The Rams will return to action on Monday, January 30 when they hit the road for a trip to Westfield to take on a Cowanesque Valley Indians team that the Rams defeated 40-31 in the Cowanesque Valley Tip Off Tournament in December.

Wyalusing will return home on Thursday, February 2 when it plays host to the Wellsboro Green Hornets.

The next home event for Wyalusing Athletics will be on Saturday, January 28 when the wrestling team looks to secure at least a share of the Northern Tier League title when they host the Northeast Bradford Panthers in a 7 p.m. varsity only start. The Rams will honor the senior wrestlers as well as induct five new members to the Wyalusing Wrestling Hall of Fame just prior to the start of the match.

The Boys Basketball team will travel to Galeton on Saturday, January 28 for a 1 p.m. JV start before returning home on Monday, January 30 when they play host to the Cowanesque Valley Indians.
