Troy notches win over Canton

CANTON - The Troy Trojans bounced back from last week's loss to Wyalusing with a 37-31 victory over the rival Canton Warriors on Thursday.

At 106, Troy's Ethan Calkins pinned Dylan Marbaker in 5:04 and at 113 Canton's Daniel Killian pinned Troy's Jared Spalding in 2:54.

Troy won matches at five straight weights between 120 and 145 to get the win.

At 120, Clint Vermilya won 6-4 over Zach Pettigrew and at 126 Chad Vermilya won 5-2 over Brooks Gleckner.

At 132, Cyle Ercolino pinned Brendan Cohick in 1:39 and at 138 Troy's Nick Bruce pinned Darren Killian in 3:52, while the Trojans' Nick Stephani won a 13-4 major decision over Travis Butcher at 145.

Canton's Jordan Campbell won by fall in 5:12 over Josh Tedesco at 152 and at 160 Troy's Blake Colton won 3-2 over Ben Pepper.

Canton's Tyler Cole won a 4-3 match over Landis Zimmerman at 170 and at 182 the Warriors' Garrett Wesneski pinned Blair Bennett in 5:11.

Canton's Chase Pepper pinned Chance Lantz in 1:52 at 195 and at 220 Connor Route of Canton won a 17-3 major decision against Briar Jenkins. Troy's Skyler Drake won by forfeit at 285.

Sayre 33, Athens 24

All season long, forfeits have hurt the Redskins.

On Thursday it helped them beat their valley rivals.

While Athens won four of the seven matches that were wrestled, Sayre got three forfeits to help them get the victory.

At 106 James Lee won by forfeit for Sayre and after double forfeits at 113 and 120, Athens' Sam Vergason won by fall in 5:53 over Lucas Murphy at 126.

Sayre's Zach Keir won by fall in 1:11 over Brandon Jennings at 132 and at 138 Athens' Marshal LeBlanc pinned Justin Boockoff in 54 seconds.

Sayre's Jesse Buck won by forfeit at 145 and at 152 Sayre's Kyle Post pinned Tim Stanton in 5:56.

Sayre's Lucas Simonis won 5-2 over Chris Pack at 160 and at 170, Athens' Patrick Donnelly won 6-3 over Chris Ott.

Sayre's James Harbst won by forfeit at 182 and at 195, Athens' Lindsay McDowll won by forfeit. There was a double forfeit at 220 and at 285 AThens' Mitchell Orshall won 2-0 over Zach Cecce.

North Penn 60, Wellsboro 10

BLOSSBURG - The Panthers got a win at 113 as Jaycob Myers pinned Adam Cleveland in 52 seconds and at 126 the Panthers' Devin Remley won by fall in 1:59 over Nathaniel Ingerick.

North Penn's Kenny Creamer won by fall in 3:06 over Josh Kennedy at 132 and at 138, Lucas Groover of North Penn pinned Jonathan Chambers in 5:30.

Wellsboro's Brandon Owlett won a 14-1 major decision over C.J. Sargent at 145 and at 152, Ben Jackson of North Penn won by forfeit.

The Panthers' Skye Stiner pinned Levi Mack in 2:50 at 160 and at 170, Robert Minnich pinned Wellsboro's Nate Harding in 4:11.

North Penn's Noah Corwin (182) and Wellsboro's Chad Daugherty (195) each won by forfeit.

North Penn's Nathan Stettler pinned Eli Kennedy in 2:22 at 220 and at 285, Nathan Kriner of North Penn pinned Nick Callahan in 5:26.
