Wellsboro holds off CV

Cowanesque Valley gave the Hornets all they could handle but it wasn't enough as Wellsboro remained undefeated in NTL West play as they edged the Indians 48-44 in boys' basketball action Wednesday.

Wellsboro led throughout, taking one-point leads after the first quarter and at halftime, but CV remained close. The Hornets extended their lead to 36-33 after three and wound up holding off the Indians in the fourth.

Jordan Jackson led the Hornets with 17 points while Matt Reese and Sam Mitchell had 10 points each. Dylan Prough added seven while Chase Barnes added two and Mike Pietropola added one.

Mitchell Dent led CV with 19 while Gavin Howe added nine. Brandon Whitsell netted five, Landon Pierce and Justin Post had four points each, Alan Wood notched two while Luke Plummer scored one.

Wellsboro will travel to Mansfield Friday with the Indian traveling to Williamson.

Galeton 47, North Penn 46

The Panthers took a blow in their run for districts, narrowly falling to the Tigers in NTL West boys' basketball action Wednesday.

Galeton led 12-9 after one and extended that lead to 25-21 at the half. North Penn held Galeton to four points in the third quarter to knot things up at 29 each going into the fourth. That's where the Tigers out scored North Penn 18-17 for the win.

Dakota Shadle led Galeton with 19 points while Logan Smith added 12. Nick Hand scored seven, Bob Williams netted six while Dan Hatch picked up three.

All five played the entire game.

Jimmy Price led North Penn with 14 points while Dan Prouty added 11. Jason DeHaven netted nine, Kaynen Arredondo scored six, Colin Craig added five while Ryan Martin put up one.

With the loss North Penn falls to 9-10 on the year, needing two wins to make districts. They host Liberty Friday while Galeton will welcome Northeast Bradford.

Mansfield 77, Williamson 39

The Tigers jumped out early in their NTL West win over the Warriors Wednesday.

Mansfield led 21-12 after the first quarter but Williamson hung on in the second, keeping it a 10 point deficit at the half, 35-25. Mansfield then pulled away to start the third and secure the win.

Mansfield's Taylor Hillson led a team effort, scoring 18 points while grabbing six boards and four steals.

Marquis Delgado, Sam Rotella and Reece Correll had 11 points each. Delgado added four rebounds, six assists and four steals while Rotella had five boards and three assists.

Dan Brought added 10 while Alec Simpson had six points with seven boards and three steals. Taylor Swingle and Dallas Dzuiba had four points each while Justin Berkowitz netted two.

Derek Vargeson led Williamson with 23 points while Trevor Adriance added six. Ryan Bidlack and Devon Smith had four points each with Drew Fish netting two.

Mansfield won the JV game 52-26 behind Bo Burleigh's 17 points.

Mansfield will host Wellsboro on Friday while Williamson welcomes CV.
